Specification :
Country Of Origin :

India: Manufactured and woven exclusively in the state of Assam.
Geographical Indication (GI): The Gamosa is a GI-tagged product, ensuring its authenticity is protected as a unique craft of the region.

Fabric :

Type: 100% Pure Cotton.
Quality: Premium count cotton yarn that provides a crisp yet soft texture suitable for both ceremonial use and daily skin contact.

Material :

Base: High-quality white cotton thread.
Floral Work (Phulam): Bright red acrylic or cotton threads used for the intricate extra-weft border and motif work.

Speciality :

Multipurpose Utility: Used as a towel, a head-wrap, a scarf, or a decorative drape for the Thapona (altar).
Absorbency: Excellent water absorption properties due to the high-grade cotton used.
Reversible Beauty: The hand-weaving technique ensures the design looks clean and well-finished on both sides.

Technique Of Design :

Hand-Loomed: Woven on traditional Assamese wooden looms (Tat-Xal).
Extra-Weft Ornamentation: The red floral patterns (Phul) are meticulously woven into the fabric during the weaving process, not printed or embroidered later.
Design Pattern: Features the traditional Anchal or Pali (heavy design at one or both ends) and Side-Borders (longitudinal red stripes).

Tribe Name :

Assamese Weavers: Handcrafted by skilled artisans (predominantly women) across the rural households of Assam, representing the broader Assamese community.

Durability :

High Longevity: Designed to withstand frequent use and washing; the cotton becomes softer and more absorbent over time.
Structural Integrity: Strong selvedge edges prevent fraying.

Breathability :

Excellent: Being a natural fibre product, it is highly breathable and remains cool against the skin, making it ideal for the tropical climate of Northeast India.

Cultural & Traditional Significance :

The Bihuwan: It is traditionally gifted as a Bihuwan during the Rongali Bihu festival to show love and respect.
Sign of Respect: Draped around the neck of guests, elders, and performers to honour them.
Spiritual Use: Used to cover the Holy Namghar scriptures or wrapped around the neck while offering prayers.

Care Instruction :

Washing: Hand wash separately in cold water. Use a mild detergent to preserve the brightness of the red Phul.
Drying: Dry in a shaded area to prevent the white base from yellowing and the red motifs from fading.
Ironing: Use a medium-to-high cotton setting. Iron while slightly damp for a crisp, professional look.
Storage: Fold neatly and store in a dry place. Avoid contact with damp surfaces to prevent mildew on the natural cotton fibres.
