Chamba Rumal
Code : P9260

Chamba Rumal, originating in the 17th century in Himachal Pradesh, India, is a unique embroidery art form. Influenced by Pahari miniature paintings, it features intricate designs – often portraying religious themes like Krishna and Radha, scenes from epics, or aspects of nature. Crafted on fine muslin or khaddar with untwisted silk threads and traditionally using natural dyes, the embroidery employs a distinctive do-rukha or double satin stitch, creating a reversible design that appears identical on both sides. Historically, they served as ceremonial coverings and wedding gifts, showcasing the brides skill. Though facing decline, revival efforts are ongoing to preserve this treasured cultural heritage.
